Paul Catherall At Clapham Art Gallery
May 10, 2004

Just found out that there is a Paul Catherall exhibition running at the Clapham Art Gallery. I saw the work he did for the Transport for London Posters there. Nice [very] little gallery. It ends on May 29th. Lino cuts have never been my thing really, but these have changed my mind...

Thanks for the comment Aly… I went along. I didn't realise the gallery has extended into an industrial unit around the corner and most of the work was in there. The premises in Venn Street were closed. There wasn't as much work on display as I 'd have hoped… Particularly liked Brighton pier, South Bank, one of the Battersea Power Stations and a couple of B&W NYC ones. Empire State and I forget what else! Then popped into Bar Local, which has an arty bent too. Very nice.

yes. his stuff is great - very meticulous prints, iconic images. as i understand it his linocuts are also currently gracing bus stops and buses across London. He's the official illustrator for the London elections next months and they commissioned him to do a series of linocuts. His Trellick Tower is ace - very much in the vein of his Clapham exhibition work. I like.
