Uneasy Listening???
October 10, 2004

After mentioning that proposed movie about the Stones Redlands drug bust, some time ago, it seems only right to mention The Wild and Wycked World of Brian Jones which started shooting in September apparently.

Paddy Considine has been cast as builder Frank Thoroughgood, who allegedly killed Jones in his own swimming pool. David Morrissey will play Brian's driver, Tom Keylock. Ben Whishaw is playing Keith Richards and the roles of Mick Jagger and Anita Pallenberg have yet to be cast. Stephen Woolley will direct...

More Stones stuff... I heard that Joss Stone and Mick Jagger were covering the 70's Mud hit, Lonely this Christmas as part of the OST of the remake of Alfie... Not so! The track listing for the soundtrack is...

Old Habits Die Hard - Mick Jagger (vocals) and Dave Stewart
Blind Leading the Blind (live acoustic version) - Jagger (vocals) and Stewart
New York Hustle - instrumental Let's Make It Up - Jagger (vocals) and Stewart
Wicked Time - Joss Stone (vocals) , Nadira "Nadz" Seid, Jagger and Stewart
Lonely Without You (This Christmas) - Joss Stone, Jagger (vocals) and Stewart
Darkness of Your Love - Stewart and Gary "Mudbone" Cooper (vocals)
Jack the Lad - instrumental
Oh Nicky - instrumental
Blind Leading the Blind - Jagger (vocals) and Stewart
Standing in the Rain - instrumental
Counting the Days - instrumental
Old Habits Reprise - Jagger and Stewart
Alfie - Joss Stone (vocals) with Mick Jagger
Old Habits Die Hard - Jagger (vocals) and Stewart featuring Sheryl Crow (bonus track)

I bought the Elysian Quartet [see earlier post] and the Boxsaga and David Schweitzer mixes are fantastic... Old Filter Records artists Boxsaga's remix of the 'Second Movement', a laidback downtempo track, lets the string work flow over the top of the subtle rhythm. The David Schweitzer remix of the Fourth Movement alters the pitch of the original work, adding to the mournful atmosphere. The original 4 movements of the piece themselves are testing but this is a fine advert for the Nonstop label...

Following up some of the Rough Trade tips [below] I came across the Boomkat site...

I Ended up with Juana Molina's Tres Cosas instead of Segundo and I love it. An album with no percussion but a multitude of beautiful rhythms.

After a few more listenings to Skinnyman, I realise that this is the best album you are going to hear for some time and you really should just buy a copy and become aqcuainted with it now...
A darn site better than Jagger and Stewart!
