Degree Confluence Project
March 29, 2004

I'm sure I'll get some stick about this being a bit trainspotter-ish but the Degree Confluence Project has rekindled my urge to own a GPS unit. Been interested in distributing tracks via some sort of Geocaching means...

Also the Tagandscan site struck me as quite interesting but I'm not sure my so called "Smartphone" will support it... Not only that. I haven't seen the camera attachment for some time. There's a novelty that wore off quickly!

Some great doodles at biro-web.com, which I came upon by way of neu-e.de

New Toy
March 24, 2004

I've just discovered the Gradient Map option in Photoshop 7.0... I don't know if it's always been there, in older versions, but I've never noticed it...

Anyway, here's one of Derek Mossop's old pics I've given a tweaking...

Derek's current work can be found at frontlinephotography.co.uk

Vurt Movie?
March 17, 2004

Another movie mystery... jeffnoon.com reported that he had completed a first draft of a screenplay of his novel "Vurt" 18 months ago. A project he is, supposedly, working on with director Iain Softley [K-Pax, Hackers]...

But, like Neuromancer [see below] news of it's progress has dried up. I'm sure these things take time, but if you're going to let these snippets of information slip out, you gotta keep 'em coming!!!

I just found out that WORDIMAGESOUNDPLAY is only available for use on Japanese consoles at this time and is available on-line at sonymusic.co.jp apparently... damned if I could find it though!!!Worldwide versions should be available in the near future.

Neuromancer Movie
March 14, 2004

Just been looking for info on Chris Cunningham's Neuromancer movie... And found this site from the the Cyberpunk Project. Most people will know Cunningham for his Aphex Twin and Bjork videos.

After Johnny Mnemonic [say no more] and The Matrix, which let's face owes more than a nod to William Gibson... it will be nice to see how a Gibson novel transfers to screen. But when is it going to happen? I believe Cunningham's version, which isn't the first, is still being worked on but has been on hold for some time, four years or something. Anything to do with the other two parts of the Matrix release perhaps???

Butcher the MuVo!
March 11, 2004

Wired.com have an interesting story about the hacking of Creative Technology's MuVo2 MP3 player. Apparently the MuVo2 contains a 4Gb Hitachi MicroDrive, which I found here for around £320.99. The MuVo2 only costs £224.49 from Amazon, so how much markup are Hitachi making on the stand-alone drive?!

Therefore photographers have been buying the MuVo2 and removing the MicroDrive to use in their digital cameras. Not surprisingly the MuVo2 is said to be in short supply at the moment... OK if you know your camera will support a 4GB drive... Better check Steve's Digicam's to be on the safe side. Then see if you can lay your hands on a MuVo!!!

WordImageSoundPlay
March 10, 2004

WORDIMAGESOUNDPLAY is the game that isn't a game from Tomato, featuring the music of Underworld... a logical progression from the underworld-live content I assume.

Those of you that saw the Beaucoup Fish tour will recognise the distinctive tomato style from the "projections" they had behind the band then and from the Everything Everything DVD.

In the shops March 17th I believe...

Got a copy of the first edition of Modern Toss at the Tate on Sunday. Mr Tourette is a star!

Just a quick mention for the Disorienteeering essay at the Momus website of Nick Currie... Links a-go-go... particularly the one to Resonance FM, which I hadn't tuned into until now.
