Guardian Unlimited: Blog All About It
April 30, 2004 Amusing debate on blogging over at Guardian Unlimited...Alright it was in last weeks G2, so I'm not being particularly topical... but it's no less interesting for it. Even better though is the link to David Shrigley's website. He was recently exhibited at Gloucester Road tube station as part of Platform for Art This is a picture of an owl by Mr Shrigley. Who, quite frankly, is a tad strange. Categories: Art, London Comment | Permalink
Japanese Vending Machines April 29, 2004 PhotoMann is a Travel Photgraphy site with a series of images of Japanese Vending Machines... Best of which has got to be either the Toilet Roll machine or the fishing tackle one!!! Although the one that vends used schoolgirls panties is pretty bizarre too!Nice images by Pars at Parskid.com... if a little strange navigation wise... This image is from a T-Shirt. I'd lost interest in the whole bootleg/mash up thing by then... Mind you, David Bowie has only just got into it!!! Get yourself over to Mark Vidler's GoHomeProductions website for details of his "Rebel Never Get's Old" mash-up that the queen of "I used to be quite ground-breaking" has chosen to release as his next single. ThinkGeek PixelBlocks April 27, 2004 PixelBlocks are a kind of Lego for geeks [or is that Lego anyway]? from ThinkGeek.com. They look like this and you stick 'em together!HUBERT SELBY JR R.I.P Hubert Selby Jr, author of Last Exit To Brooklyn and Requiem for a Dream, amongst others, died yesterday. He was 75. Fibonacci Flash File! April 26, 2004 Nice little educational bit of Flash for you at textism... In case you didn't already know... Just ordered the first two Cocteau Twins albums on CD from Amazon... after reading about 4AD Records 25th anniversary... haven't heard them in years. Fancy that, after mentioning Rowena's pinhole pix on Friday, I find out yesterday was pinhole day... Take a look at the gallery Categories: Music, Photography Comment | Permalink
Shaun Of The Dead April 24, 2004 Managed to see Shaun Of The Dead at last... Only 11 of us in the cinema though... which wouldn't bode too well if it wasn't so bloody nice outside.Where did all this T-Shirt weather come from in April... Still, I'm not complaining. SOTD is better than I anticipated. I wish I had gone to be a zombie extra when the opportunity presented itself now... Still, never mind. I was worried it would be too B-movie but it's not that far removed from a Spaced Episode really. Excellent. Well, maybe they could have edited the bit where they are all holed up in the Winchester a tad... Anyway, in case you haven't seen it yet, I won't go on about it, but go... NOW!!! In the meantime, well, when they have some more in stock, get yourself a T-Shirt from Airsideshop.com... Ooh, you've got red on you! Categories: Movies Comment | Permalink
Polaroids & Pinholes April 23, 2004 Amazing what you can do with an old Pringles tube isn't it? polaroidsandpinholes.com has a gallery of images taken with just such a thing... amongst others!Try this Flash game Gene Sequencer... It's bloody tricky if you ask me! Get over to Salon.com Books for a lengthy interview with novelist Neal Stephenson on the 2nd part of the Baroque Cycle: The Confusion. I really have to finish Quicksilver. It's a great book.... There just isn't the time to get through it! Still, only about 750 pages to go! Categories: Photography, Books Comment | Permalink
What PANTONE colour are you? April 22, 2004 You have to have been in the print or design business to be truly anorak-like about PANTONE colour [sorry USA, I have to use that second "u"] books but the PANTONEbirthdayCOLOR selector is a novelty whether you know what a colour book is or not... I'm 17-1526 [viridian green] Haven't laughed at anyone so much as J Maynard and his TRON costume in ages... If that was for a fancy dress contest I hope he won!!! Categories: Web Comment | Permalink
Floppyswop April 20, 2004 A://FLOPPYSWOP/MADE FOR 56K/ is a site related to the endfile.com site... Using the limitations of a floppy discs capacity [1.44MB] or dimensions [3.5"], it provides an on-line community for sharing digital ideas. There are liberties taken, like zipping files or using more than one "floppy", I think... I've only browsed it briefly. I used to have some samples up here to allow visitors to re-mix tunes, which I thought might suit this idea, although the size limitations make the whole thing a bit lo-fi [not that there is anything wrong with that!] but I'll be giving it a thought... along with the stickers idea I sort of started, but haven't stuck anywhere. Hmmm, we'll see! Categories: Web Comment | Permalink
Endfile April 16, 2004 Been browsing the endfile site again a bit today... Really like the SMS "pixel samplers" giving technology a folky craft feel...I won't be in Birmingham until The Window is dismantled but it's situated in Birmingham City centre in an arcade that sits between Miss Selfridge and WHsmith. Glad somebody has found a use for those old floppies! Categories: Art, Web Comment | Permalink
Blik Invaders April 13, 2004 Whoo!!! Check these out... firebox.com have these fantastic Space Invader wall stickers to create murals with... Now, what wall shall Istick them on? The question over at the BBC is... What does a deaf rave sound like? better check this BBC News piece to find out. Play them some Leftfield at full volume. That's always guaranteed to move some bowels! Came across this via the V-2 Organisation blog... The Sound of Mathematics!!! I've considered using Fibonacci sequences for determining arrangements before, but this goes way further than I would! Categories: Music Comment | Permalink
