Fear And Loathing In Colorado February 21, 2005 Hunter S Thompson has been found dead at his home in Colorado.Best known for his 1972 account of a drug-addled trip to Nevada, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Thompson pioneered "gonzo journalism", a factual style in which the writer was an essential part of the story... Reports say he shot himself. Fear And Loathing was illustrated by Ralph Steadman Comment | Permalink
Britart February 20, 2005 I thought I might start putting some of the images I like on Britart.com up here. They had an affiliate program going through uk affiliates but that appears to have been dropped - Although Britart still has a link to them.I suspect that this just hasn't been updated though. It's great idea but their communication is terrible. I've e-mailed them a couple of times about using images/linking but never had a reply. They would really benefit from having a stream like flickr. Although art isn't exactly something you would impulse buy - Well, depends how wealthy you are I suppose! The image below is by Joe Clark. Clarke works exclusively at night rendering spaces in, quite literally, an unfamiliar light. This particularly reminds me of Edward Hopper's 1940 painting Gas... See below. Bedazzled February 15, 2005 Good to see the BBC showing the Cooke and Moore Bedazzled tonight... Seems that this is coming out on DVD at last. Don't know when... But it's not before time.Jenny Holzer at the Spruth Magers Lee Gallery is good news too. I've been wondering about Holzers lack of involvement on the internet, but maybe I just missed this before now? Sometime ago I e-mailed britart.com about the possibility of them introducing a feed of their MyBritArt pages in a similar manner to the flickr feed... But got no reply... Anybody got any idea how to do it myself? [or yourself, as the case may be?] Comment | Permalink

Mondovino! February 07, 2005 Saw Mondovino yesterday at the Brixton Ritzy... Some confusing editing and a length of two and a quarter hours didn't help, Meet The Fockers was the same length and lot less demanding [ass-hooooooole!]... Mondovino is a documentary about the impact of Globalisation on small wine producers, shot in France, Italy, Argentina etc. it's the interviews with these wine producers that make this film - There are some fantastic characters, all of whom seem to have dogs that Nossiter was very keen on filming too! The film is inconclusive really, but I guess that allows you to make up your own mind. I don't know enough about wine to fully appreciate any subtle differences, but the fact that these people believe so passionately in what they do as opposed to the likes of the Mondavi family and their attempts to make everything taste the same! Mass Blandness all round then... Anyway I believe there is a ten hour DVD planned! I think I've seen all I need for now thanks. This was preceded by the best omelette I have ever had at SW9 Which is where I took this wall shot...

Who The Hell Is Kevin Armstrong? February 06, 2005 Uploading to Last.fm is slow... must get that broadband connection sorted... But I've done 4 tracks from H&S... Sitting here watching Poltergeist 3 while they upload... Think I must have been lucky enough to miss this every other time it's been on! How many "times can they say "Carol Ann" in that film??? Had a series of bizarre dreams the other night. Strangest of which involved Karl Hyde from Underworld giving me a credit card to use to draw around, to create frames for a makeshift video he needed to shoot, in a park we both appeared to be marooned in... The odd thing being the card said his name was Kevin Armstrong! I think I got involved in humming some sort of cover of the Doctor Who theme with him and Rick Smith after that... Sam informs me that she woke up in the night at some point and I was "singing" in my sleep! In a slightly ridiculous squeaky manner. Weird! Comment | Permalink
