Who's Telling Pinky Perky Porkies?
April 28, 2005
I watched the latest in the interminable 100 Best Of... Series on Channel 4 on Saturday - Made, I assume, because they can't make anything decent anymore... Anyway, aside from a brief clip of the wonderful HR Pufnstuf - I thought I was the only person that remembered that - there was a suggestion of Pinky and Perky reforming. You'll have to bear with me here if you don't remember any of this stuff. I think the P&P revival might have already started - But under a different guise! AKON! He may look like some moody Senegalese dude but really it's a front for the porky twosome... Pinky and Perky, the sensational singing piglet puppets of the 1960's, had their own TV show which ran from 1957 to the early 1970's on British television and performed cover versions of many pop songs of the day. At the height of their fame they received almost as much fan mail as the Beatles! And now they are back! Check out this Party remix of Outer Space and compare the vocal style to the backing vocals on the dreadful pile of shite that is "Lonely" by Akon [I won't link to the song as I expect you have all heard it by now - as the BBC seem insistent on playing it every bloody morning] and tell me they aren't the same...
Speaking of Pinky, Perky and the BBC - I found this link on the BBC website [from last March] which was of an exhibit in the Blindart exhibiton that was running then.

This piece [left] is called "Pinky and Perky"! Spookily, after typing up the above I had a look at the Boing Boing website, which contained a link to this Michael Garlington exhibition and used this image of his - In which Pinky and Perky lose their bacon! [right]
The exhibition is currently running in LA...

TV Off
April 21, 2005
This innocuous looking item is supposed to be able to turn off practically any TV - So what you might think... Imagine the fun to be had in a TV showroom or Sports Bar at a crucial point in a big game.
Available from ThinkGeek $14.99
I put this link reluctantly - as the website is a pain in the arse... But there is a thing called Camp on at the The Place that seems to involve Vivaldi's Four Seasons, dancers and a row of tents! Choreographed by Arthur Pita, this is it's second run. Review here from Ballet Magazine.

A Case Of Ostranenie
April 20, 2005
I took the new tune down temporarily as I noticed that it was missing the last minute or so - Not only that, I re-wrote the bass line over the weekend and prefer the newer version. Unfortunately I can't upload it at the moment. I keep getting a "page cannot be dislayed" message. Grrr! Thanks to whoever left the kind comment about it for the brief time it was there though. Sorry I forget your name.
speaking of Ostranenie - a Russian word that basically means to make the familiar unfamilar - much like this Tetris bookcase I found at Chamboultout. It's $7000 mind!

It's made by Brave Space Designs

New Starck Track
April 14, 2005
Update: 13/02/08 - The Mperia site is long gone and I've been removing any trace of the links on this site - Look out for starck tracks on iTunes sometime in 2008
There is a new starck track, Ostranenie, available to download at mperia.com - For the introductory price of a mere $0.25 - Of course, you can listen to it for free!
Ostranenie is a Russian term of literary analysis and refers to the experience of having the familiar and commonplace made strange or alien. Such a process of estranging those experiences which are ordinarily taken for granted, challenges the perceiver to re-engage their significance and perhaps discover new or unexpected meanings]!!!
Don't say I don't tell you anything.

50 People See
April 07, 2005
The 50 People See set by Brevity/Neil K are created using a program to blend Flickr images which share the same tags. No human is involved in choosing, positioning, or blending the images. This is partially inspired by the work of Jason Salavon
Also artfacts.net give this site a mention [erroneously attributing a Cecil Beaton pic to here - Well, it's Google's error really] but it's caused quite a few people to drop by, which is nice...
Also a French Art forum mentioned this site in relation to a post that I did on Sidewalk Chalk Guy, last December. They have found his website, which is at kurtwenner.com
Kurt is one of the few recognized Master Street Painters in the world and creates original street masterpieces, live, before the public. Wenner is a performing visual artist who turns the celebratory folk art of street painting into a performance art spectacle.
The opportunity for groups and individuals to see fine art in the making and talk with the artists generates a tremendous public interest and press coverage drawing enormous crowds at festivals, conferences, galas and other cultural events.
In community settings, Wenner’s images often reflect local history, current events, or a specific them for the occasion. For corporations, he can weave a logo or marketing message into his design. Corporate team building events often include Wenner working with small groups that create their own paintings.

DrumKit
April 05, 2005
Took this at the Christian Marclay exhibition at the Barbican yesterday - Which is still on until May 2nd and well worth a visit.
I'd heard some of Marclay's recorded work before this and saw the "Guitar Drag" film a few years ago but his work with record covers are far more interesting - That man must have gone through truck loads of bargain basement records to come up with those...
I didn't take photos of any of those though so you'll just have to go yourself! The drum kit is 4m high apparently and totally unplayable.
