Rebecca Horn: Bodylandscapes

Rebecca Horn: Bodylandscapes 26 May- 29 August 2005 Hayward Gallery, South Bank Centre, London

Bodylandscapes brings together the work of one of the most respected figures in international contemporary art. Focusing on Rebecca Horn's drawings, the exhibition also includes sculpture, film and installations made over a period of thirty years.
Much of Horn's work is influenced by her long stay in hospitals and sanatoriums following a serious illness in the late 60s. The show explores how that experience has shaped her work through her constant allusion to the body, to sensory awareness, physical frailty and desire.

Micropaint Madness And Other Deviants
May 23, 2005
I'm sure this is genuine but why waste 500 hours of your life to do this when you can scan the picture in and get the same effect? Bonkers! This was apparently painted in MS Paint, by Diamonster - pixel by pixel - The two characters on the little jetty, bottom left, certainly suggest it was. I'm a bit dubious about the sky though.
What am I talking about? Get over to Deviant Art to see...

Join The Kew
May 20, 2005
The Dale Chihuly Glass installation at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Kew runs from May 28th until 15th January 2006 - Perfect for that heatwave the meteorologists have been threatening us with then! It is the first Chihuly exhibition to be presented in a UK botanical garden.
Gardens of Glass: Chihuly at Kew will present visitors with a series of installations set within the historic garden landscape and great glasshouses and specifically designed to respond to the living collections, listed architecture, and Georgian vistas of Kew.

The Sun at Kew Gardens, which was installed at Kew in February for the Orchid Festival, is on view and will remain through the exhibition.
For photos, video and essays concerning past Chihuly exhibitions in garden settings, visit the Gardens and Glass section. Additional upcoming European Chihuly exhibitions are on at Marlborough Fine Art in London from June 28 through July 30, and one at Marlborough Monaco from September 11 through November 11.
Interesting article on Japanese Indie music buying by Derek from CD Baby and fantastic pictures of a derelict theme park, also in Japan, coincidentally, via City Of Sound.
 this one is best
Just cancel those little pop ups asking if you want to install the Japanese character set. And on the subject of rollercoasters. There are some satellite photos of a Pennsylvanian amusement park at Google Sightseeing, via Things. .

Peepshow
May 16, 2005
Mediamatic are have organised an installation at the Stedelijk Museum CS In Amsterdam. Through small peepshow holes flickr-photos are shown on screens. You can send a message with a tag from your mobile phone to a number and a couple of seconds later there is a slideshow behind the peep-show-holes.
Also, for one week in May, the diners in Restaurant 11 will be confronted with photos by the users of Playing FLICKR select. By sending a keyword through SMS, users can request all photos on the flickr.com database that are tagged with that particular keyword. I don't know what week that is though, but I suspect it was last week!
Look out! Apparently your iPod/iTunes setup could be open to hackers. A security bug in iTunes 4.x code means that media files, if written correctly, can open up the system to all sorts of unpleasantness through the injection of hostile code.
iTunes users are being advised to update to version 4.8, which fixes the potential problem and introduces more validation of media files. It affects both Mac OS X andWindows users.vulnerable too.

Soul Deep Penguin Grouch
May 15, 2005
The Penguin 70th Birthday publications are infinitely desirable little blighters - The web site's Flash is a bit touchy if you ask me - It just gave up working while I was looking at it. Not sure if I want to buy the whole lot of them or I am just judging them by their covers, to coin a phrase.
Also on the matter of Penguin - Their Remix page encourages you to download samples from audio books and stick them in a tune and submit to Penguin. OK, I will!
Must try to get along to Sketch this week and see their Souvenirs From The Earth installation [on until 21st]...
Damn, missed the second part of the BBCs excellent Soul Deep last night. I hope they consider putting that series on DVD.
Ha Ha... Sam just texted me this picture from a wall in Old Street... Oscar The Grouch.

Turner Whistler Monet
May 14, 2005

Went to TWM at the Tate yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by Whistler's Etchings [Putney Bridge above] and Turner's watercolours. I thought I would only like the Monet's as I've never had much time for the other two's oils. It was far too crowded, as expected, but interesting to find that a lot of their work was painted along the Thames, not just for the light and smog, but because of the buildings that they found so modern. Hard to believe now really!

Dubliners Return
May 12, 2005
Well that went quick, but slow at the same time - Dublin must be of that size that you can see a lot of it in a weekend - Like Amsterdam. Which it reminded me of a lot actually - I think it's a combination of the buildings by the Liffey, it's proximity to the sea and it's friendly people. It's a tad pricey though.
Arrived Sunday and checked in to the Morgan Hotel on Fleet Street in Temple Bar. Then went off to explore around St Stephens Green, via Grafton Street and then along the Grand Canal - 2nd day we walked to Bull Island, the wrong way, from Raheny

Must have walked 10 miles that day. Lots of birdlife on the island though and a very bracing walk! Especially the hail storm!

3rd day we went to the Hugh Lane Gallery to see the Francis Bacon studio, that has painstakingly been moved from it's original Kensington location - All 7,000 pieces of it. Had to take this at the lowest exposure possible, without any camera shake, as the studio is behind a pane of glass so I couldn't use the flash.

In the afternoon we strolled over to look at Trinity College. We wandered over most of the City during the 2 [almost 3] days but didn't do any of the tours, like the Guinness Brewery, Book of Kells and that. Just aimed ourselves down streets in the general direction of what we wanted to see and stopped in the odd bar or 10 to sample the Guinness!
We managed to miss our flight by getting stuck in the rush hour traffic which was a bit of a pain as we had to get up at 5.00 the next morning for the next flight to Gatwick. Took some pictures out of the plane window, but it was so scratched up they are rubbish which is a shame as the view of Wales [Brecon Beacons/Severn Bridge] was fantastic.

There are more pictures on my Flickr pages, mostly of graffiti though!
