Skeeta Kids
May 30, 2006
Further to yesterdays gig... bear with me, you'll see... I read this piece at BBC Wiltshire about a high pitched noise that is supposed to deter "youth" from hanging around certain areas and being, erm, teenagers.
It us supposedly only audible to people below the age of 25 and, after testing it on Jake [16] it's evdently quite annoying! I could hear the odd squeak, but I'm way out of the target age range... Try it yourself.
I'm sure I read elsewhere the other day, that kids have now turned it into a ringtone, so they can use their mobiles in class without teacher's hearing the calls. I guess you've got to have oldish teachers though.
Anyway, my point being, that Alva Noto could have cleared the Tate of teenagers last night just as quickly!

Ryoji Ikeda: Tate Modern
May 29, 2006
Ryoji Ikeda etc. at Tate Modern was spectacular. Here's a video link of the usual wobbly quality...
Ryoji Ikeda
Robert Henke performed a piece, using Ableton Live via a weblink, in collaboration with Torsten "T++" Pröfrock, who performed remotely from a studio in Berlin... with the visuals following his mouse clicks over a matrix of 8 bars. I was too engrossed to film anything I'm afraid.
Alva Noto followed with a performance [of Xerrox] that could best be described as an android migraine. Didn't do it for me!
Ryoji Ikeda stole the show with datamatics [prototype], which was co-commissioned by AV Festival 06 and ZeroOne San Jose and ISEA 2006 Symposium. This piece was first performed as part of the AV Festival in Newcastle, March 2006.
I'll add more links later, but there a few on this previous post.
There appears to be a new Flickr, jag your bloody photo feature these days I see! Or is it Blogger. I've tried linking from Flickr and uploading the image via ftp and they both have the jaggies. They look fine any other way! Grrr.

MySpace Is Your Space...
May 28, 2006
Spent the precious few moments we weren't in the pub this weekend creating MySpace spaces for mine and Kev's PornTsar and KSX projects. As well as a brief update of the PornTsar website and creating a sub domain for KSX, after we let the domain for that site go a while back.
You can find the MySpace for Porntsar and KSX here.

It's All Going On...
May 24, 2006
... And I'm still not finding time to get much done, but have spotted this little bunch of interestingness this evening...
16-25 June is the London Architecture Biennale, with many an event to make you appreciate living in the Metropolis.
This image, left, is another of those posts at Moleskinerie that make me cringe at the scrawl that fills my notebooks.
Listening to a selection of tracks from Benn Loxo Du Taccu this evening, which is making a pleasant change from the electro and the funky!
Need some "novel" writing tools? Try Ywriter by SpaceJock... It's free, for some reason! And the B Club is an interesting combination of Books, Bands and Bellini's at the Great Eastern Hotel.

Ray Charles & Matisse: Gatwick Hilton
May 23, 2006

Just to make up for the lack of posts recently - I did this last year some time. It's Ray Charles performing on the BBCs Soul Deep, with a Matisse print in the background after a bit of Photoshopification!
Probably not much , but it all seemed to work at the time and I just happened across it.

What A Great Summer That Was!
May 22, 2006
I've, at last, got round to uploading the final shots from our few days in Cornwall, most of which is well documented on flickr, so I won't go into it all again here. Apart, that is, to mention a few links of note. Enjoyed the few Ellsworth Kelly canvases in the Tate, which they wouldn't let me photograph... Why? In case I had the prints blown up, printed on canvas and passed off as originals? The Serpentine show was far superior and I didn't bother taking my camera yesterday as it was tipping down all day.
Anyway, Seb West's little gallery is worth a visit if you are ever in St. Ives. The Leach Pottery Restoration Project could benefit from the odd spare quid or so and The Alba restaurant is also worth a visit and epitomises how much St. Ives has changed since I last visited... As did the very few Cornish accents I heard.
Most of the shots I took are from a coastal walk we did from St. Ives to Zennor... If I had read this amusing piece before we went, I might have had second thoughts. A very accurate description I'd say!
Check out the Rian Johnson, director of the marvellous Brick, piece over at the BBC.
Right, hopefully that's me back up to date and in a position to do something creative for a bit - If I can get rid of this bloody cold.

Dog Almighty
May 11, 2006
Hope you all saw Dog Almighty on Channel 4 last night? [Thursday 11 May]. A dog-based animated sketch show using recorded conversations and replacing the humans with animated dogs in an Aardman-esque stylee. Following on from the success of internet phenomenon Dog Judo, which has had over 10 million hits to date apparently, Dog Almighty uses several styles of animation to bring to life dogs who discuss supermarket etiquette and their desire to father baby boys and who’d win a fight with Jimmy Saville, amongst other things.
It's the work of 12Foot6, which was set up in 2000 and is the combined 6 ft 3" heights of David Anderson and Tom Mortimer. They produce animation for web and broadcast and started off doing web animations for likes of Virgin Mobile and VW. Followed by ads for likes of Nytol and Virgin Atlantic and titles for TV and short films. They are also animating the Modern Toss series] YESSSSSSS!!!!
check out the Dog Interview on lovefilm.com. I like the dogs playing pool best. Like an animated Arthur Sarnoff print [Pic above: The Hustler].
And yeah! I haven't finished putting all the Cornwall pics up at flickr yet!

Elephant Gothic
May 02, 2006
I hope we get back from St Ives in time to catch the Sultan's Elephant walking the streets of London.
Had a quick day's recovery from Kerry's birthday celebrations, in Southampton, over the weekend with a visit to Le Gothique. Very nice and very well concealed!

Sorry, I missed Saturday's Love Music Hate Racism gig in Trafalgar Square.
