Urban Art Fair 2006
July 23, 2006
So the sun shone again and though I failed to find anywhere to leave my promotional postcards we saw some great work, an improvement on last year I think, and met some nice artists. Works that caught my eye include...
Sarah Graham, who sold her Charlie Brown painting while were there. Rob, this is one of the artists I was waffling to you about at Trev & Viv's that night. I think you and Kerry would like some of this stuff.
Tina Mammoser, particularly her Tiny Horizons series.
Agamemnon Otero, Landscape's & Flowers. don't think there was any of the stuff there but I prefer the landscapes anyway.
Tom Harper, whose City drawings are indescribably complex and beautiful.
Muna Zuberi, is also a web designer and graphic artist and has a fantastic portfolio of paintings, mainly of iconic musicians, which isn't a particularly unique idea in itself but they are very well executed.
Sarah Sherwood, whose landscapes I prefer when they are slightly abstracted, more than her abstracts actually.
Staffan Gnosspelius, is an illustrator of children's books and printmaker. My mate Chris would love these. I'll send his card up to him I think. Julia and the Triple C is published by AP Watt.
There were a few other artists that I really liked that didn't have web sites. Lena Pankow, who is another artist I thought Kerry and Rob would like, Martin Grover and David Western stand up! Martin and David had a little exhibition [Life In The Bus Lane] on locally, that I missed while we were on holiday, so I was particularly pleased that they were there. That's Martin's work in the photo above, not that you can really see it. A lot of his paintings place Country and Soul icons in South London surroundings. I think I prefer David's Launderette paintings but it's a close run thing.

Grass Roots: The Movie
July 22, 2006
Grass Roots is a 3D animated film adapted from the comics books The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers by Gilbert Shelton and the director of The Magic Roundabout. The plot for which is...
For once the Brothers find themselves with plenty of cash and some righteous weed. But this is no ordinary marijuana: it's been genetically modified as part of a sinister government plot to take over the dope market. When Norbert the Narc, secret agent and rock-jawed defender of the law, decency and the American way, accidentally hands some of the prototype weed to the Brothers and they discover its bizarre side-effects, the feds are soon hot on their trail and the boys have to leave town fast. Now is the time to fulfil their long cherished dream of retiring to grow marijuana in a remote spot in the country. But what is going on in the Secret Government Research Centre just the other side of the hill? Surely the Brothers can't have chosen to hide right next to the very place where the genetically modified "product" is being tested... Can they?
Not sure when it's due to be completed though.

Schmap Freebie & Beaufort 2006 Plans
July 21, 2006
Schmap have given us contributors the opportunity to offer freebie downloads of their guides. In case you've forgotten, my photographs are in the Dublin and London ones. I'll find somewhere permanent for this later, when I've got something together about our hols. Too busy thinking about the next trip to write about the last one though...
We got some documentation in the post about a cycle route that follows the Beaufort 2006 trail but I don't think we'll have time to cycle it. There's a tram route all along it apparently. That will do me. Think we'll get the Eurostar on a Thursday evening. Stop over in Brussels, then get the train to Ostend on the Friday, see how much we can see on the Friday and Saturday and hopefully have time to pop into Bruges on the way back. Mind you if I try all the beer and chocolate I've been reading aboout I'm going to need a bike!

Modern Toss
July 18, 2006
Well, I'm back but have been set back from the relaxed state my holiday put me in by a night at the Happy Valley Country Club.
I have put the holiday photos up at flickr [well 92 out of 200+] and will be writing a bit about the hols here soon.
Firstly though I've got some stuff to come about last Saturday's Urban Art Fair, but I doubt I'll get that done tonight as I'll be eagerly awaiting Modern Toss on Channel 4. It started last Tuesday but I missed it being away. There are a few mpegs here though.
