All The Gossip And Some Light Laughter
November 28, 2006

We went to see Jimmy Carr do his Gag Reflex show on Sunday. Not quite as good as the thing that was on TV recently [can't remember what that was] but not at all shabby. Not as well paced, but then it wasn't edited, obviously... but so, so wrong and funny and refreshing for it! But if "Non PC" offends your 21st Century sensibilities you'd hate it... But he is fair - He does insult everyone!

The jokes/insults come thick and fast and I realise now I can only remember the ones from the latter part of the show. Mostly "The Pirate", which I couldn't possibly repeat here but if you've seen it you'll know and if you haven't I don't doubt a DVD will follow!

Following on from Sunday's post, and thanks to e-music, I now own the entire Gossip back catalogue. Plenty more than 2 albums it appears. I now have 59 tracks including remixes!

London's Moving: How Transport Is Changing 1st Nov - 13th Jan, which is on at New London Architecture, The Building Centre, 26 Store Street, London WC1E 7BT, seems a good thing to tie in with my planned visit to the British Library's maps exhibit in the New Year [also mentioned on Sunday].

I'm hoping to get to Volume, the PlayStation sponsored installation at the V&A tomorrow...

"A luminous interactive installation will transform the V&A's John Madejski Garden this winter. Volume is a sculpture of light and sound, an array of light columns positioned dramatically in the centre of the garden. Volume responds spectacularly to human movement, creating a series of audio-visual experiences".

The piece is a collaboration between lighting designers United Visual Artists [UVA] and Robert Del Naja [alias 3D] of Massive Attack and his long-term co-writer Neil Davidge (as part of their music production company, one point six).

London Art Heroes Gossip
November 26, 2006

L'Hospice by Gilles BarbierI had to put a link to these pictures of Gilles Barbier installation L'Hospice. Those Super Heroes must be getting on a bit now. via Boing Boing

And thanks to Diamond Geezer's post on the current exhibition of London maps at the British Library that I might otherwise have missed. Something to visit in the new year.

Interesting concept from Penguin. they have released 6 Classics with plain white art paper covers and are inviting readers to design their own covers and send them to the My Penguin Gallery.

Well everyone else is talking about them so I might as well too, despite the fact they've been around for 4 years! Gossip... and the fantastically monikered Beth Ditto, who has an awesome voice... and Guy Piccioto [Fugazi] has done them proud with the production on the Standing In The Way Of Control EP too. Right, I'm off to find their previous two albums. I like it when you find out about someone new and there is plenty to buy.

Mashed
November 23, 2006

Trev & Steve by The Ginger DJThought I better post something up here before the rest of the year slips by. Another sickly week passed after the last post and then Sam's birthday was upon us. And an evening at Bar Inigo. Of which, frankly, I remember very little! There are 40+ photos on my phone that I can't remember taking and The Ginger DJ has about 50-60 on his Flickr page that I have a vague recollection of trying to avoid being in! This is one I didn't avoid [left].

Me and Trev... Having a lovely time look!

Well, it all went well by all accounts...Unless you were Paul & Sarah who were chucked out due to Paul wearing a hat! How mad is that? Apologies for not answering your texts sooner chaps but, well... same excuse as the photos really. I blame the £1 shooters. So that was the rest of the weekend wiped out and I think I've just about recovered now.

Interesting stuff afoot at Flickr. Check out this report on their new Camera Finder feature. From Mashable. And the Flickr London Map. Talking of mash[able]. I can't wait to try Mother Mash, just opened in Soho. Mmmash! Not to mention pie!

Oh yeah! Have a listen to How To Cure Dyslexia - It's that stuff they call Folktronica or something. Anyway, Little Else is a great tune, which reminds me a bit of Robert Wyatt, especially vocally.

I'm somewhat intrigued by the stories that the NHS are to prescribe addicts heroin! Not for the good of their health, but to cut crime... Apparently Home Office research showed heroin addicts commit 432 offences a year! What percentage is that of all crime in the UK annually I wonder? Are there drug cartels queueing up to tender for the contract for that one? How much will it cost? Will the NHS cut it with anything to make a quick profit? What will they do when one of their patients ODs on prescription heroin [sorry diamorphine] and their family sues???

Shoot 'Em Up!
November 12, 2006

Campaign Paintball, Cobham, SurreyAll Quiet On The Western Front, since last weekend, after a nasty bout of something I caught whilst Paintballing. The green on my visor, left, is not part of the ailment, but not disimilar!

Anyway... fun though it all was, the fact that I could barely walk for couple of days afterwards and was stricken with this horrendous cold means it's all been a bit quiet this week... and to be honest this post is just an excuse to put this photo of my full, in the face, speedball shot.

Thanks to "Sarge" and everyone at Campaign, Cobham... not technically London [if it's good enough for John Terry it's good enough for me], but there you go... for a fun day. I suspect though that 12 hours poker and drinking doesn't constitute a warm down exercise!?!?!

Midweek Mash Up
November 03, 2006

London DocklandsWe had a good day on Thursday, mooching round Greenwich with Chris... Mostly to try Goddard's Pie & Mash establishment, while it's still there, until Nov 12th... on Diamond Geezer's recommendation! It might have been cold, but the sky was blue and clear and, although I think my camera is on it's last legs, I got a few nice random photos, here and there.

After Greenwich, we headed off to the South Bank to see Jamie Hewlett's [so called mural's] outside the Royal Festival Hall. See pictures here. I managed to blur the rest of the day with a few slugs of the bottle of Sailor Jerry, spiced rum, that Chris left us with. Could have done with some of that this evening whilst watching Lambeth's Brockwell Park firework display. A bit of rum would have taken the nip out of the air. Shame Lambeth can't do housing as efficiently as fireworks!. Just got to survive a spot of paintballing tomorrow and that'll be me done for the weekend... Once again, links might follow when I have the time.
