Triangulating Christmas
December 29, 2006

Just New Year to go now... Christmas hangovers are long behind us now. Unfortunately my Birthday one isn't. Thanks to Sam, Karol and Kevin for a great lunch [as ever] at Chez Bruce. The fois gras and daube were a treat, even if I could probably do without any more food for a while after the festivities! Mind you, there's a Balti on it's way as I type this.

Just getting to grips with my Gecko 201, bought for me by Sam for Christmas and listening to Orphans, also from Sam [for my Birthday]. So, expect properly geo-tagged photos in future. Other aural treats included the Destroy Minimal mix CDs [excellent] and Rudresh Mahanthappa - Codebook CD, thanks Sis, who also got me a Gorillapod for my camera.

Got to find time to watch the My Name Is Earl and League Of Gentlemen DVDs [thanks Jake] too. Not to mention reading the small mountain of books I received too. I've made a start on the Little Britain book and GPS for Dummies. The Terry Frost [signed] - Works On Paper and Callum Innes - Resonance are graphic so that's a bit less time consuming, not much reading.

Oh! And not to forget the Radio Controlled helicopter from Trev! So there you go. That's what I got. What did you get.

I've just added a Twitter badge, which I hope will actually publish in the colour I specified rather than the fetching pink it seems to be at the moment. I'm not sure if I'll take to it as I can't really see the point but I'll give it a go.

Unazukin
December 15, 2006

Check these out... The Unazukin is available from Firefox. You can ask them questiona and they will either nod or shake their heads. Japanese, naturally [although they do look like those Russian Dolls that stack within each other].

That's the last bit of sense you'll get out of me for a week or so. This is day 2 of five parties in seven days and I'm already feeling rough!

Top 10 Albums 2006
December 11, 2006

I thought I'd join in the annual, year end, "Best of" list craze...

01. The Gossip - Standing In The Way Of Control
02. Lily Allen - Alright Still
03. How To Cure Dyslexia - Take It Outside EP*
04. Be Your Own Pet - Be Your Own Pet
05. The Knife - Silent Shout
06. Cat Power - The Greatest
07. Jenny Lewis And The Watson Twins - Rabbit Fur Coat
08. Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am...
09. Spank Rock - YoYoYoYoYo [Record-Play]
10. Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly - Chronicles Of A Bohemian

* OK, so it's an EP... if the album had been out in time it would have been there I'm sure. The Mystery Jets, The Rapture, The Feeling and The Raconteurs albums would also get a mention if I wasn't limiting myself to ten titles.

I'm sure a few other things would have made it too if I'd got round to buying them. There were a lot of things I've played more than some of these this year but they weren't released in 2006... I was just slow on the uptake. Most notably Jenny Owens Young and The Robot Explosion.

Volume: One Louder
December 05, 2006

Mark & Lucy WeddingGot a nice little e-mail from Joel at UVA alerting me of the Making Of Volume shots up on their website... after my hastily typed piece before we flew up to Scotland. As I briefly said, you must go to Volume, it's an engrossing experience that we'll certainly be off to see again. On a Lighting note there's another free piece to be seen at the South Bank, with David Batchelor's Festival Remix from today until January 6th.

Mark & Lucy Wedding: 02/12/06

We had a fun weekend North of the Border in Loch Awe, with three very late nights [the first, en route, at Viv & Trev's] followed by three early mornings... making sure my cold has now reached "stonking" level. Still, the wedding was great. What I can remember of it. Although the Scottish weather tried to put a dampener on things and my camera was next to useless in the low light with my hands shaking from the cold winds. The rain held off for the official photos though and for the choregraphed Born Slippy fireworks [I think], it was getting a bit messy by then.

A lot of guests had to be ferried the long dark journey back from Ardanaiseig, down narrow roads to another Guest House, at midnight. So only a few of us braved the half mile golf buggy journey back to our cottage to carry on into the morning. Well, I didn't quite make it as long as everybody else!

The 6 hour wait at the airport for the flight home wasn't much fun though, nor was the take off in 66 MPH winds!!! Although the views of massive, tumbling waterfalls and snow capped mountains around Loch Lomond on the two hour drive back to Glasgow were worth it. Oh! and the venison at the hotel was awesome.
