Going Out For The Summer
April 28, 2007
Sorry folks - Another three weeks lull in blogging, brought on by a mixture of partying and decorating. Nothing really worth reporting though.
This week holds a visit to the much lauded Trinity Restauarant in Clapham to celebrate Sam and I's 5th Anniversary. Also Christian Marclay is at Late At Tate Britain on Friday.
I'm trying to add all the locations mentioned on previous posts here to the Google MyMaps feature at the moment so I don't anticipate posting too much more until we come back from St. Lucia next month. At which time I expect I will be adding a lot of new photos to my recently neglected Flickr page as well. When I'm done with the MyMap links I'll either post the whole lot as a KLM file for Google Earth or possibly do individual ones for posts that warrant it.
Soon after we return we have tickets for Rufus Wainwright at the Old Vic followed by a trip to Paris, then Wild In The Country. Underworld's only confirmed UK show this year, complete with support from Soulwax [performing Nite Versions] and Justice, among a lot of others. So that's May and June pretty much sorted!
Just spotted our first Swallow [actually a Swift, but that doesn't sound the same] of Summer out the window!
ThinkGeek have a lot of cool, if ridiculous stuff at the moment. Including this Radio Controlled Super Mario Kart.

Modified Shorts
April 06, 2007
We just got back from the the first Late Tate... Cybersonica at Tate Britain.
As I said yesterday I was really looking forward to the Trojan Sound System who were pretty loud and deep in what I imagine was their soundcheck at 6.00. But the North Duveens was not built to host a sound system and the acoustics muddied the sound no end so it was taken down a bit for the majority of their set. Which was beautifully augmented by AV duo Dynamite Fishing...
Lovely concept though.... Reggae rattling those Old Masters.
We gave them about 30 minutes whilst having a beer before sloping off to see the "installations", popping our heads into the Future Shorts room and then downstairs.
Room 9, where Future Shorts were based, had a sign warning us that space was limited and people would be turned away if full. Fearing we might miss the Modified Toy Orchestra we went in a good 45 minutes early. And I'm glad we did. We caught a few of the Future Shorts/Future Cinema pieces accompanied by Little Bat and Perico. I can't for the life of me remember the titles of any of the pieces we saw but I'll rifle through the FS website and see if any bells start ringing as they were all excellent, funny and moving.
8.30 rolled around and the Modified Toy Orchestra appeared. Dressed in Kraftwerkesque suits and ties and backed by some great video footage of their own, the MTO got the first whoops and cheers of the evening out of the packed room. Brian Duffy, beautifully described by Zero Tolerance as "Like a nine volt Frankenstein...”, pulled guitar hero shapes clutching primary coloured kids toys and danced a little like Alexei Sayle if you ask me! 30-40 minutes later it was all over and we rolled out via the shop... and I got a copy of Modern Toss 4.
Didn't get anything great photo-wise... The image above is shamelessly blagged off their MySpace page. taken at last years Sonar, I think, and during "I am Hula Barbie, hear me roar"!
... but it was a great night. And free! BTW... song title of the night for me was "Funfair For The Common Man"... If only I had heard the title of the track about the elephant and cockerel mechanical toys' illicit affair. That had a great video.

Cyber Cow
April 04, 2007
Not sure what's been going on for the last month, other than a couple of parties wiping out to whole weekends, a pretty messy pub crawl and a particularly drunken night in Soho... Oh and the Affordable Art Fair. Which was awash in wine itself! If you add doing s bit of work and all the days necessary to recuperate from the above... You find yourself here.
We'll gloss over Sarah and Viv's birthdays as there isn't a lot I can remember anyway! A quick round-up of artists that impressed at the Spring AAF include: Val Pitchford, Vanesa Van Vlerken, Alastair Gray, Rupert Muldoon, Lin Osborn, Nigel Moores, Richard Allen, Branislav Kropilak, David Wheeler, Roger Tye [glass] and some great Rock'n'Roll prints from Snap Galleries. It was nice to see Marian from Gallery-One again too.
Hopefully the weather is brightening up now and I'll find some time to get out waving my GPS around whilst taking some photos. Of course it should be OK, weather-wise, in St. Lucia next month. I'm trying to resist the temptation to get a new camera before we go!
Will probably get a few snaps at Cybersonica [late at Tate Britain] on Friday. Looking forward to seeing the Trojan Sound System and the Modified Toy Orchestra.
Just listening to the National Anthem Of Nowhere album by Apostle Of Hustle.
June sees the 30th Anniversary of the release of the Sex Pistols God Save The Queen and Panic Attack! Art in the Punk Years, running from 5 June 2007 - 9 September 2007 at the Barbican Art Gallery.
Ever fancied a go at painting one of those Cow Parade cow's? Now you can, albeit in miniature, courtesy of Firebox [see pic above]. Actually if you submit a design to the official Cow Parade site you could do a life-size one!
OK, I'll try not to leave it so long next time.
