Don't Choke Chuck
August 12, 2008

Chuck PalahniukJust got back from the Chuck Palahniuk reading at the Roundhouse. I was expecting an extract from latest book Snuff but instead we were treated to a unique short story, Loser, about a kid on a game show on acid! This was followed by a Q&A, the majority of which was from some guy whose name I didn't catch who may or may not have been something to do with Borders, who put the event together.

For reasons best known to Chuck there were "blow up the inflatable doll" competitions with horror DVDs as prizes. Certainly a different book reading event than I've experienced before.

There was a bit of chat about the forthcoming film adaptation of Choke, which Radiohead have apparently scored the music for and stars Sam Rockwell. Got to wait until November for that one in the UK.

We arrived about an hour early so had a couple of drinks on the terrace and availed ourselves of the BBQ they had set up out there until it got a bit nippy and consequently tipped down with rain. Which was a shame as it was nice out there, good burgers too. It was a bit of a quiet night [well compared to when we were last there for Underworld anyway] with Alabama 3 playing unplugged in the main auditorium and looking like they may have pulled a smaller crowd than Chuck!

Sam spotted Marine Ices across the road when we came out so we got a couple of ice creams for the tube journey home. Boris hasn't banned those yet. I had cherry and Sam had strawberry. Ooh blimey, they were good! I have to go back and pig out on their pizza's and tiramisu.

I'm sure the guy introducing Chuck called him Chuck Polo Neck!
