November Is Long In The Tooth
November 30, 2008 Whoah! better slip another post in before December is upon us. I managed to get to bed at around daybreak after Pom's party. Then got up five hours later and went shopping for Sam's birthday presents before meeting up with Kev & Karol for a roast and Bloody Mary's at the Railway. I then spent the week on a training course in Old Broad Street, accompanied by an increasingly painful tooth abscess which reached it's peak on Friday morning, coupled with a searing hangover in a basement with no A/C accompanied by pneumatic drills from the road above. Apart from going out for dinner at the Rosendale for Sam's birthday the week was mostly broken up with walks around Broadgate and Liverpool Street, where I stumbled upon an exhibition of Kinetic Light Sculptures at All Hallows on London Wall. Curated by Wallspace, it was the work of Willie Williams, otherwise known as U2's lighting engineer. I also wandered past Broadgate Tower, the Broad Family sculpture and Richard Serra's Fulcrum among other things. I wondered how far some of the many architectural developments around there would get in the current financial climate. The Heron Tower has obviously already got off the ground but The Pinnacle [Why didn't they call it the Needle or something, being at the end of Threadneedle St. and all] still looks to be pretty much foundations. Hope they don't cut corners and turn it into a bungalow! Anyway. I had four and half hours to kill on the Friday before my train to Lichfield was due to leave. So I walked to Euston, stopping at a few pubs, had a curry at Chutneys in Drummond Street, had another pint and a couple of cans on the train and managed to, accidentally, do some self maintenance on the abscess. Look away now as this is gruesome! The whole shebang burst and, although it tasted disgusting, was a great relief and meant that I could actually move the left hand side of my face over the weekend. Bizarrely, I now know of two other folk that have recently had this flu thing that's been doing the rounds and have subsequently had a dental related problem. Weird! Other than that, the only thing of note was going to the British Museum for Statuephilia on Friday night. Apart from the Damien Hirst being inaccessible due to a private function it's a very good, if small exhibit. They are obviously there to lure you into looking at the old relics, which worked for me. And the Pharmacopoeia exhibit is worth a look too. I should start thinking of my Top Ten albums for 2008. I've listened to approx 65 new albums this year so I think it might be a tricky call remembering what's what this time! I've condensed all my Google Maps, which have been monthly, into one now. See the link below... And, with my Web App course in mind I've been spending a lot of time thinking of how to develop something to update both blog and map at the same time, on the move, as well. Which is vaguely related to all the studying I should be doing. Still, the first part of the course is over at the end of December. So I just have to weave some report writing in among all those Christmas drinks that clutter your calendar at this time of year and I'll get a couple of weeks off. I was going to post a photo with this but Zemanta seems to have taken over the formatting and I can't be arsed to wrestle with it at this hour. Better go to bed. Yoga tomorrow and I'm a week behind with the poses. Tsk tsk! Categories: Music, Art, London Google Map Comment | Permalink Comments: Post a Comment
