Movie Bleeps
July 29, 2009 Just got in from an Orange Wednesday... Frozen River. Don't know what the negative reviews I've read are about. I couldn't find fault with it. It's dead grim but incredibly well shot and acted. Melissa Leo and Charlie McDermott were both very convincing andI thought it was well edited too. I don't know how long it runs to but it was well paced and didn't leave me with that 20-30 minutes of wishing it was all over that most films do.Mind you, we saw Moon last Wednesday and that is very to the point. There is a similar pace to both films actually and you kind of know what's coming in both movies... and yet you don't. I'd recommend them both, unless you want car chases and explosions and the like. I see there is a trailer for Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland already, even though they can't have actually filmed much of it! It's long wait until March 2010! Just downloaded The Future album by Swedish producer Beem. The bits I listened to on MySpace sound a little like they might be coming from the same spot as Cobblestone Jazz, but I'll have to listen to the rest to see. I have a couple of long boring days in server rooms to look forward to before the weekend so I need some new entertainment. The "cover" art is cool. Lego synths. On a very slightly related note, check out these Bleep Labs Robo Audio Synth Thingamagoops. Pictured. Get them from ThinkGeek. I mentioned Cory Arcangel's Colors movie the other day, well I've found this page that will tell you a lot more about it. I was glued to this at Tate Liverpool. Liking the concept behind Freekly too, though I haven't tried it yet. What else would this work with? Movies I guess and e-books when folk have enough of them on their hard drives. Something, foxes I imagine, is making an horrendous sound out there in the rain. Still it's not as annoying as whoever was trying to kick the crap out of someone else for nearly an hour on our landing this morning. 4.00am is really not a time to be fightimg. At least they weren't whoever the 10 police cars and helicopter that shot by late last night were after. Well I assume they weren't! Ah! Lovely peaceful SW2. We're off to see the Walking In My Mind exhibit at the Hayward Gallery on Friday. And this adaptation of Macbeth: Who Is That Bloodied Man, by Teatro Biuro Podrozy. Wonder if it'll be in Polish? Hey! If the rain holds off I won't mind what language it's in, there aren't many versions of Shakespeare with motorbikes and witches on stilts. Then it's Brighton for the Gay Pride parade [if we make it there in time!] and a BBQ round Kev & Karol's new gaff on Saturday. This is a recipe for a wet weekend isn't it? No doubt followed by a long night of tunes, dancing and inappropriate behaviour. Hopefully we'll catch up with Trev & Pom again before they slip back to Thailand as well.
