Bite Yer Ankles
September 04, 2009

After going missing yesterday, the omelette man is back for breakfast today. After breakfast we go to the restaurant next door for coffees and to watch them feed the river turtles chicken, which they seem to love for some reason. So do the restaurants cats and they don’t look too impressed with having to share it. One of them takes a plunge into the river, in a vain attempt to liberate a piece, but manages to scramble back ashore somehow.

The call to prayer from the mosque sounds amazing from the hotel, bouncing off of two parts of the mountain opposite and adding some lovely natural reverb to the dronier parts and almost harmonising with itself. One of those occasions that you wish you were sad enough to carry recording equipment around with you!

We spend the day reading by the pool, breaking off for kebabs next door for lunch before showering and heading out for dinner again later. We make our way to one of the restaurants away from the centre, Kervan Saray, which is no less busy for the its location. Oddly, despite being away from the river we are both victims of mosquito bites for the first time. And all around the ankles! Short mosquitoes? Still, they don’t interrupt our dinner too much. Meze’s again. Beans in tomato sauce, halloumi and an amazingly smokey aubergine thing. Then minced lamb and garlic on skewers and chicken and vegetables.
